Questions

About Lapwing, Maki, and the closed beta.

What is Lapwing?

Lapwing is a 3D AI companion you talk to by voice, right in your browser. Its character is Maki, an anime-style companion who listens, answers out loud, and moves as she speaks. There is nothing to install. Lapwing is in closed beta at lapwing.live and is made by Sardor Nodirov.

Who is Maki?

Maki is Lapwing's character: an anime-style 3D AI companion with silver hair who talks with you by voice. She listens while you speak, answers out loud, and moves as she talks. Ask her to dance and she will.

Is Maki a real person?

Maki is an AI, not a person. No one speaks for her.

How do I talk to her?

Open lapwing.live, press Talk to Maki and allow the microphone. Then just talk. She listens while you speak, answers when you finish, and you can talk over her to interrupt.

Do I need to download anything?

No. Lapwing runs in a browser tab. You need a recent browser and a microphone. Laptops and desktops work best; phones are still being tested.

Why is there a waitlist?

Lapwing is in closed beta. Join the waitlist on the home page and you will get an email when a place opens. If someone gave you an access code, press "I have an access code". To ask for a code, write to sardor@nodirov.com.

Is it free?

Yes, during the closed beta. There is no payment anywhere on the site.

What languages does Maki speak?

English only, for now.

Is this the VRChat avatar called Lapwing, or the bird?

Neither. This Lapwing is the 3D AI companion at lapwing.live, and its character is Maki. It has no connection to the VRChat avatar named Lapwing, its face-tracking add-on, the fan chatbots based on that avatar, or the bird.

Who makes Lapwing?

Sardor Nodirov. You can reach him at sardor@nodirov.com.
